The Supreme Court

The supreme court in the UK has recently definitively (and unanimously) stated that when sex is mentioned in law, it means biological sex.

This one judgement overrules a decade of confusion in our nation and brought clarity that was needed. For many of us this one judgement was a time to celebrate, not because those who are struggling with their identity ‘lost’ the case, but because common sense won.

We can have every sympathy for those who are struggling while at the same time acknowledging the importance of biology in society.

All this was resolved by one judgement of the supreme court. One declaration.

So here is where my brain goes – there is one judge over all – one being who has the final say on all matters.  When He speaks, His word is final.

His word brings clarity.

His word cannot be overturned – there is no higher court.

We can therefore have absolute confidence in God’s word.

He writes the laws of nature and the laws of life and he will ultimately judge both the living and the dead.

Such is God’s authority that there is none who can challenge Him. He sits on His throne and laughs at His enemies. At the name of Jesus every knee will bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord.

When God says something His word does not return void, but always accomplishes the task for which it was sent – whether it is a word of judgement or a word of strengthening. The first example of this is right back in creation when God spoke, ‘let there be light,’ and light had no choice but to be formed and obey.

Man in his arrogance may think he knows better than God, but God in his wisdom will always have the last word.

God’s word is seen as such by people from all backgrounds  and cultures. From Mathemeticians to lawyers, from experts in literature and history to the man on the street whose life was changed by it. God’s word does not need our endorsement to be true – it is the word of the highest court in the world before whom everyone will stand one day.

We can therefore have great confidence in God to watch over and to keep His word and to fulfil what He has said He will do for those who follow and obey Him.

God’s order for life is the best order.

God’s principles for living are the best principles.

God’s ways are the best ways.

God’s word lasts for ever.

What an honour it is to bring the unchanging word of the living God to the next generation.
